Condensed report
This month obviously looks better the last month, and much better than the previous month, when I actually lost money – but I’m not in the clear yet. I’m not sure I’ll even be in the clear until I get my next book out, but I’m starting to have my doubts about that, too!
Here are my basic numbers this month:
Income
- 📚 Book Sales: $2,587
- 📦 Misc. Products: $7
- 🗣️ Affiliates/Advertising: $3,095
- 🙌 Reader Support: $154
- 👨🏻💼 Services: $0
- 💰 Gross Income: $5,843
Expenses
- 🧾 General: $212
- 📣 Advertising: $588
- 🌐 Hosting: $345
- 🧮 Total Expenses: $1,144
Net Profit: $4,699
This month’s highlights
- 📈 Mind Management sales tripled: But what I was really focused on was sales rank. Some promotions I ran boosted it, but profits are still so-so.
- 📉 MMT profits still struggling: I’ve tried several things to revive them, including soliciting ratings and enhancing A+ Content. I have eight theories why, ranging from “everyone’s broke” to a specific theory about an “algorithmic cliff,” backed by some really interesting historical data I have stowed away.
- 🧠 Hacking (and tracking) Amazon also-boughts: Though often hidden, these are critical to algorithmic visibility. My methods of showing up in the also-boughts of books like Feel-Good Productivity and Tiny Experiments range from overbidding on advertising, to more obscure hacks I can only share on Patreon.
- 💥 Huge Affiliate income spike: Next month probably won’t be as high, but I’m brainstorming new ways to diversify, including my recent ActiveCampaign Review. Unfortunately one source has dried up – for now.
- 🧭 New “Amazon Attribution” feature: This is helping me track performance of advertising I do outside of Amazon. A godsend of a new feature.
- 🎧 How to Sell a Book now on (AI-narrated) audiobook: I used Audible’s Virtual Voice Studio, which has some quirks for sure, but I’m confident some listeners will actually prefer it to my own voice.
