Last chance to pre-order How to Sell a Book (Amazon has blocked the book!)

October 17, 2024

Friday is the last day to save 10% by pre-ordering How to Sell a Book. (The discount code, HSBPreOrder, will be applied automatically at checkout through that link.)

By taking all pre-orders at once, I can save on printing and shipping the books, so I’m passing almost all of that savings on to you.

Amazon has blocked the book!

In case you’re waiting to purchase the book on Amazon, please know that Amazon has blocked the book.

I’m not able to update the book I’ve submitted, and I’m not even able to submit over again with the book’s ISBN.

If you’re wondering if it has anything to do with what’s written in the book about selling outside of Amazon, including beating Amazon’s prices when selling bundles direct, the answer is, I’m not sure! I’m still trying to get a straight story from Amazon on why they’re blocking the book, and whether I have any recourse, but so far it doesn’t look good!

If it sounds stressful to spend much of your year writing a book, only to have Amazon refuse to sell it, you are correct! It is extremely stressful and will be horribly disappointing, and financially devastating, if I can’t sell six months of my work on the biggest bookstore in the world.

All the more reason to buy direct

While it royally sucks to have your book blocked from Amazon, it does make me more grateful than ever I’ve built my own store to sell to you directly.

If you prefer ebooks, don’t forget that ebooks are available directly from me, also 10% off when preordering. Given the above, and Amazon’s pricing restrictions, I currently have no plans for a Kindle version of the book.

Remember that when buying ebooks directly, you own the DRM-free book. When you “buy” an ebook from other retailers, you’re merely renting it.

In sum, order now to save 10% on the preorder, and don’t put it off if you’re loyal to Amazon, as I can’t be sure I’ll prevail in my attempt to sell the book on Amazon at all.

Using a pro camera for Zoom calls and streaming

April 26, 2024

I recently spent a boatload of time researching cameras, lenses, and lighting to improve my video quality for conference calls, streaming, and podcast interviews. I had to wade through many YouTube videos by streaming gamers and camera gearheads who get too technical. So here’s what I found out, specifically for conference calls, in the most basic terms possible. keep on reading »
